Salesbuilder for AIR 1.0
Now that Flex 3 and AIR 1.0 are generally available, it’s time to upgrade some of the sample applications I have been building during the beta program. So, here is Salesbuilder for AIR 1.0.
Salesbuilder is a Sales Force Automation application written in Flex and deployed on the AIR runtime. It demonstrates local persistence using the embedded SQLite database, data synchronization, native drag-and-drop, and other features such as direct chart manipulation.

Hey Christophe,
Could you say a few words on open() vs. openAsync(), i.e. synchronous vs. asynchronous connection to SQLLite. If I recall correctly the docs say that async is generally better but I’ve been skeptical of that, and you use sync here.
It seems to me that if dealing with hundreds or thousands of records, maybe even tens of thousands, the delay time for sync ops would be negligible. I’d start thinking of using async ops if there were hundreds of thousands.
Where would you draw the line?

@Douglas, just a thought, bear in mind that the perception of slowdown is going to be dependent on the speed of the user’s machine. That’s a consideration that we web folks haven’t had to consider as much in the past.

Please note that I had to convert the .zip to .air to install from your link to the application.
Thank you for this inspiring AIR application!
As I am developping with Flex and AIR for my diploma degree I would like to ask a question:
In an earlier post regarding the first version of salesbuilder you wrote you “removed the server component (to avoid having to watch all the bad things that can happen to a shared demo database)” and that an “XML document plays the role of server data.”
So this means with a standalone AIR desktop application (like salesbuilder) it’s also possible to access a remote database e.g. on a webserver? I tried to do this for a while but cannot find out how this works. Do you have any hints?
I would be very thankful for any answer, maybe via email. I would have emailed you, too, but could not find any address :-(
